Save the Children Sweden

Save the Children is a leading international children’s organisation working to create a better future for children. They are active in 70 countries worldwide.

Mutengo has been contracted by Save the Children Sweden to undertake a number of assignments including, designing and facilitating a regional learning network of civil society organisations active in the child rights sectors in Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia; conducting a regional assessment of child rights within Southern Africa, facilitating training on child rights and assisting Save the Children staff and partner organisations to reflect on and deepen their approach to child rights programming within the region. This work has also culminated in the publication of several facilitators’ guides, such as:

  • “A Southern Africa Facilitators’ Guide to Child Rights Programming Training”;
  • “A Rights Based Approach to Strategic Planning”

Save the Children in South Sudan

Mutengo Consulting was recently commissioned by SCiSS to conduct a child rights situation analysis for the child protection and child rights governance sectors in South Sudan. Mutengo then assisted staff to develop strategic programme plans for child protection and child rights governance to guide implementation and resource mobilisation over the next five years in South Sudan, the newest country in Africa.

Diakonia Sweden

Diakonia is a Christian development organisation working together with local partners for a sustainable change for the most vulnerable people of the world. Diakonia’s programmes focus on human rights, democratisation, gender quality and socio economic justice.

Mutengo Consulting was commissioned to undertake an end of programme evaluation of Diakonia’s South Africa programme. The evaluation assessed the relevance, efficiency, effectiveness and impact of Diakonia’s national programme strategies in the areas of human rights, gender and HIV and AIDS. The results of the evaluation were used to inform programme strategies in other countries in Africa.

Mutengo Consulting was also commissioned by Diakonia’s East Africa Regional Office in to conduct a funding scan of trends within the funding climate in East Africa and to identify potential sources of funding for livelihoods and rights programmes. The results of the report were used by Diakonia and its partners and to make strategic decisions regarding future programming strategies in the region.

Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation

Centre for the Study of Violence & Reconciliation (CSVR) is a South African based NGO, which is aimed at addressing the effects of and reducing social violence.

Mutengo Consulting worked with CSVR’s Gender Programme on a civil society capacity building project. Mutengo acted as the Organisation Development consultant for the project and mentored five community based organisations (CBOs). These CBOs are concerned with various gender violence support programmes in various townships surrounding Johannesburg. Mutengo provided mentoring assistance to the five CBOs as well as undertaking institutional strengthening training in the areas of leadership, CBO governance, project development, monitoring, evaluation and financial management.

National Aids Commission – Malawi

The Government of Malawi established the National Aids Commission (NAC) in 2001 to respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country. NAC is the coordinating body for all HIV/AIDS activities in Malawi with a mandate to provide leadership in planning, organising, coordinating and setting guidelines for the prevention and control of the pandemic.

Mutengo Consulting was contracted to design and develop a national HIV/AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Training Manual for NAC’s partners and umbrella NGOs. The manual is aimed at assisting staff of the umbrella NGOs to train community based organisations to monitor and evaluate a range of HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities including, IEC, mother to child transmission, voluntary counselling and testing, home based care, support to orphans and vulnerable children and ARV treatment.

Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference - Catholic Institute for Education

Catholic Institute of Education (CIE) is an associate body of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference. Since 1985, CIE has provided educational services to the Catholic network of schools in South Africa. The organisation is committed to redressing the imbalances in education and assisting the development of people from disadvantaged communities and marginalised groups.

CIE commissioned Mutengo Consulting to undertake a study to gather baseline information for the Second Phase of the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Gender Education Programme in order to enable the programme to assess the extent to which its objectives will be achieved over time.

Other work with the CIE included producing a DVD documenting the use of pastoral care committees and their impact on addressing child abuse in schools in the North West Province of South Africa. And facilitating a conflict management workshop for CIE staff.

CARE Lesotho-South Africa

Established in Lesotho in 1968 and South Africa in 1994, the joint mission, CARE Lesotho-South Africa, was created in 2001 to promote integrated regional programming and lesson learning. CARE Lesotho-South Africa has head offices in Johannesburg and Maseru.

Mutengo Consulting has documented several of workshops on HIV/AIDS and strategic planning processes.
